Julia's 2018 TBR Lists
January 2018 TBR List
1. Death in St. Petersburg by Tasha Alexander
Why?: I am so excited to delve back into the world of Lady Emily. I have been a fan of this series ever since a high school friend gave me the second book as a Christmas present. This series combines two of my favorite things: Victorian era & Murder Mysteries! This is the 12th installment of the series and while some books have been slightly disappointing with character development, I always enjoy the intriguing mysteries and exotic historical locales that changes with each novel. I would also like to add that my boyfriend gave me my own hardback edition of this novel for my birthday to add to my collection!
2. Iron Gold by Pierce Brown
Genre: Science Fiction
Why?: When the pre-orders for this book became available I JUMPED on it! This is the fourth book in the Red Rising Series and the beginning of a second arc! I was lucky enough to start this series soon after the third novel, Morning Star, was published so I devoured all three within a week. This novel takes place 10 years after Morning Star with Darrow and Mustang apparently fighting a new war and might include different POVs. I really loved the first arc so I can't wait to see what Pierce Brown created for this new storyline!
Expected Publication: January 16th 2017
Expected Publication: January 16th 2017
3. Princess Bride by William Goldman
Genre: Fantasy
Why?: I've seen the movie a THOUSAND times, but have never read the book. I'm really excited to read this timeless fantasy classic as a part of my Book Riot Read Hard Challenge 2018.
4. Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Genre: YA Fantasy
Why?: So let me be honest...I have NO IDEA what this book is about. Yes, yes, I have a copy on my mantle and yes, yes the book is listed as to-read on my Goodreads account but I never stopped to read the book blurb. I do have high hopes for this book from the onslaught of advertising I saw last year to recommendations on the ACOTAR FB group it comes highly acclaimed. So naturally, when I saw it on the discount shelves at Books-A-Million I spirited away home where it has lived on my mantle for the past three months.
5. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
Genre: Science Fiction/Mystery/Thriller
Why?: Reading this book is lonnnnggggg overdue. I was given a copy of this for Christmas in 2016 from my boyfriend and, like many of my unread books, it has lived on the mantle in the living room for most of its purchased life. I'm a cover whore, so the interesting cover with the futuristic font really caught my eye in 2016. I've seen a few of my friends on Goodreads rate this book pretty well so, let's FINALLY do it!
6. Radiance by Grace Draven
Genre: Fantasy/Romance
Why?: Since I'm a huge book nerd, I'm apart of a few Facebook book groups. This was recommended by more than a few people so I took a gander at it on Goodreads. First, the cover totally drew me in- some interesting looking paranormal male? YES PLEASE! The book blurb sealed the deal with a little bit of paranormal, royalty, political intrigue, and of course the romance.
7. Wicked Boy by Kate Summerscale
Genre: True Crime
Why?: So after looking at this title, you might be thinking one of these things is not like the others- you'd be RIGHT! This last selection for January is apart of my Book Riot Read Harder Challenge. I found this from one of their posts on the challenge- Read a True Crime novel. This one is about a true crime in 1800s England of a mother committed by her two boys. I am a sucker for the Victorian era and not so much True Crime so hopefully I'll end up liking this one!
